This year we will be doing WORD WIZARD for students in 3rd-5th grade. Here are the words to choose from:
fiction | A story that is not true or is made up |
nonfiction | writing that tells about real people, places, and events |
realistic fiction | A story using made-up characters that could happen in real life. |
genre | a major category or type of literature(fiction, nonfiction) |
theme | the main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a novel, short story, or other literary work |
character | A person in a story |
problem | a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome. |
solution | an action or process of solving a problem |
Students can practice these ACADEMIC VOCABULARY words on Quizlet: Word Wizard Flash Cards
These words will be submitted by paper by September 3. 5th Grade students will choose 2 winners per grade level.
Make sure the words are being used correctly in a sentence and your illustration matches the word and definition.

Monday, March 1, Primary students will come preview the book fair and make their wish lists.
Tuesday, March 2, Intermediate students will come preview the book fair and make their wish lists.
The last day to shop will be March 9th.
This week during library, we are reading “A Friend for Lakota”. This book is a Narrative Nonfiction story, written by two people that lived with Wolves. They stayed with them for 6 years to observe their habits and behaviors.
Students decided that humans are like wolves in many ways.

Hello All!
Welcome to our new library site. I am your new Library Media Specialist for the 2020-2021 school year. I am a familiar face on campus for most of you because I have taught 3rd grade reading this past year. I am a 13 year Roughneck and bleed maroon!
I am so excited for all the kiddos to get back to school and to grab a new book to read.
When you come in the library this year it might look and feel a little different. We will start with NEW books on the shelf! I have shelved some amazing new titles for you all to enjoy. We will be sharing interactive read alouds and learning lots of new literature in the library this year. Your teachers will be impressed when you go back to your classroom.
